Church History The Mount Olive Baptist Church of Arlington, Texas was organized in 1897, during the first week of July on the old Sol Davis Tract on Indiana Street, near its present location, under the leadership of Rev. Squires, the first Pastor. The officers were: Bro. Charlie Parker, Bro. Clint Smith, Bro. R. S. Watson, Bro. Jim Black, and Bro. Arthur Hunt. Since that humble beginning, the Church has grown not only numerically, (now residing in her fourth edifice), but has multiplied the services it provides her members and the community. Later, the Church moved to 415 North West Street under the leadership of its second Pastor, Rev. Samuel Luster. The following list of Ministers served as Pastors of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Under the leadership of Rev. O. V. Hall, the Mount Olive Baptist Church was rebuilt at 415 North West Street. The Officers were: Bro. Herbert Jones, Bro. Amzie Loving, Bro. Jim Block, Bro. Arthur Hunt, and Bro. Leonard Cooper. Our present Pastor, Rev. Norman L. Robinson, was called to Mount Olive Baptist Church, October 9, 1966. "Where there is no vision, the people perish, Proverbs 29:18." Vision is the ability to see, perceive or discern beyond the present time. God has blessed us with such a Pastor, Rev. Norman L. Robinson. Under his administration and leadership, the Church was rebuilt at 402 North West Street. The Ground breaking Service was on October 31, 1976 and we entered that edifice June 4, 1978. On July 8, 2001, Rev. Norman L. Robinson celebrated his 34th Anniversary here at Mount Olive Baptist Church and received honorary Keys to the Cities of Arlington and Grand Prairie for his years of service to his congregation and community. Rev. Robinson has been presented letters of commendation from President Ronald Reagan by Rev. Ronald Bryant and President Bill Clinton by Congressman Martin Frost. In July 1992, North West Street north of Division was renamed "N. L. Robinson Drive" by the city. The Ground breaking Service for our present facility was November 1, 1987. Our first service was held March 19, 1989 in our new sanctuary at 301 West Sanford Street. The Ribbon Cutting and Entrance Celebration was held on April 9, 1989. It was attended by several City Officials, representatives from our State Capitol, and officials from some of the other cities in the Metroplex area who made special presentations and proclamations. Rev. Charles Wade of the First Baptist Church of Arlington was the speaker for the evening. On April 16, 1989, the Dedication Service was held. Special Guest from the Rising Star District Association of Dallas, Rev. Emmitt Burrell, Moderator, was the guest speaker. The Dedicatory Message was from, II Chronicles 7:14, "God's Peoples' Glorious Day". Our Cornerstone Service was held April 30, 1989. The laying of the Cornerstone was by Paul Drayton Lodge #9 F&AM, P.H.A. On May 21, 1989, our II Entrance Service Celebration was held. Our Guest Speaker for the evening was Rev. T. H. Davis, Pastor of the Rising Star Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas. Since our last Homecoming, August 2000, God has added 425 Souls. Mount Olive Baptist Church has served as one of God's early soul saving stations in the City of Arlington. Many souls have been brought to Christ by its faithful Ministers and dedicated Officers. On August 15, 1995, another one of our Pastor's dreams became reality when we opened Metro Christian Academy (now Metro Charter Academy) with grades K-5 through 6th Grade; nine faculty members and 110 students. Effective August 14, 1996, grades K-4 and 7th were added and enrollment has reached 140 plus. The purpose of Metro Christian Academy was to train young people in Bible truths along with reading, writing, grammar, spelling, heritage studies, mathematics, foreign language, science, music, computers and social studies skills. Through this training the students will become mature and thoroughly equipped in the knowledge of the Word of God. The Mount Olive Day Care Center opened February 21, 1980. The Groundbreaking Ceremony for Arlington New Beginnings was held on January 31, 1999 and the offices opened in November 1999. The first tenant moved in January, 2000. The Mount Olive Federal Credit Union opened January 11, 1999. Under the leadership of Rev. Norman L. Robinson, many Deacons and Ministers have been called, licensed and ordained. Our Motto is still "Live A Clean life for Christ and He will bless you". Psalms 121:1,2 "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills. From whence cometh my help? My help cometh from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Psalms 127:1 - "Except God build the house, they labor in vain that buildeth it."
