Pastor, Rev. James P. Thompson, Jr.
Pastor J. P. Thompson Jr. is the chosen successor to Sr. Pastor N. L. Robinson. Rev. Thompson is married to Sis. Lalita Thompson and they currently live in Mansfield, Texas and have four children, Kanita, Jessica, James III, and Megan.
Rev. Thompson was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a minister. In 1986, Rev. Thompson was selected to be the Youth Pastor and served in that capacity until 1994.
Rev. Thompson was elected to serve as Pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church by the Sr. Pastor and the church membership in 1994.
Rev. Thompson graduated from the University of the District of Columbia. He also attended the Southern Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary. He graduated from the Truett School of Theology at Baylor University, where he received his Masters of Theological Studies. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Southern Bible Institute where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board.
IT Consultant, Rev. Jesse L. Johnson
Rev. Jesse L. Johnson serves as Minister of Evangelism / Mission Outreach. He is married to Sis. Rita Johnson and they, along with their children, Matthew and Jasmine, live in Arlington, Texas. Rev. Johnson also has an adult son, Jesse IV, and a daughter Jessena.
Rev. Johnson was born in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Mount Olive church in the fall of 1979. In January, 1988 he was ordained as a Deacon and served until March, 1989, when he accepted his calling as a minister of the Gospel.
Rev. Johnson has been Pastor of the Pilgrim Rest Valley Church and since returning to Mt. Olive has been involved in several ministries of the church in addition to his responsibilities as related to Evangelism and Mission Outreach.
Rev. Johnson graduated from Lincoln University (Missouri) and Southern Bible Institute, where he completed the basic course of studies and was named Outstanding Student of the Year in 1988.
In addition to his basic responsibilities associated with the Evangelism and Mission Outreach ministries, Rev. Johnson is also the Director of the Web Site Development and is a member of the New Member Welcoming Committee.
Minister of Music, Bro. Ricky Moore
Brother Ricky Moore, has been with Mount Olive Baptist Church since September, 1998. God has blessed him with a gift to offer praise through music. Hymns are a great part of his ministry. 'Amazing Grace Shall Always be My Song of Praise.'
As a young musician, Brother Moore studied pipe organ and vocal music, as a music education major, at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Upon completion of his academic studies, he married Sister Del Moore in October, 1980.
Upon moving to Texas, Brother Moore played for several churches, community functions and baseball games for the Texas Rangers ball club.
In 1998, after coming to Mount Olive, Brother Moore attended Southern Bible Institute in Dallas, Texas and completed the Basic Biblical Course in the year 2000.
Brother Moore is responsible for the selection of music, as well as, the preparation of the singing units and musical staff for worship.
Director of Education, Rev. Charles S. Powell
Rev. Charles S. Powell serves as Director of Christian Education. He has four children, Enjole', Kimberly, Kevin, and Erica. Rev. Powell is married to Ava B. Powell. Through this union he has added two daughters, DeTrece A. Williams, Demetra A. Williams and a son, Deitrich L. Williams. The Powell's live in Arlington, Texas.
Although Rev. Powell was born in Slaton, Texas, he spent his formative years in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in March, 1989. In April, 2000, he accepted his calling as a minister of the Gospel.
Prior to becoming the Director of Education, Rev. Powell taught in the New Member Orientation class rotation.
Rev. Powell graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1984, where he received a BA in Communications. He began his theological training at Southern Bible Institute and completed them at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received a Master of Theology in 2005.
In addition to his duties in Christian Education, Rev. Powell is a liaison between Mount Olive’s outreach ministries and the City of Arlington. His resume of volunteerism is extensive. He serves on several boards that cater to the spiritual and physical needs of low to moderate income individuals.
Outreach Minister, Rev. David E. Hogg
Rev. David E. Hogg is a born again Christian and serves as the Youth Minister at Mount Olive. He was born and reared in Arlington, Texas. in the historical “Hill” neighborhood where he was taught the Word of God from his Parents, Deacon Earl & Sister Betty Hogg. He grew up in his parent’s home directly across the street from the smaller Mount Olive Baptist Church and was dedicated as a baby by Senior Pastor N.L. Robinson. At the age of 7 years old David accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized by Senior Pastor N.L. Robinson and his Father Deacon Earl Hogg.
David attended school in the AISD and is a graduate of Lamar High School. He received a full athletic scholarship from Southwestern Christian Junior College in Terrell, Texas where he was Team Captain, and an All – Conference Basketball Player. David graduated with an Associates of Science Degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Theological Studies. David continued his college matriculation by attending the University of Texas at Arlington where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Communications. He continued his Christian Education training at the historic Southern Bible Institute in Dallas from 2000-2004.In 2010 David graduated with academic honors as Summa Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Christian Leadership/Systematic Theology from The Criswell College in Dallas Texas. As a student at Criswell he received several academic honors including the prestigious Emmet Francis Caldwell Scholarship and Who's Who among Students In American Universities & Colleges.
Before being the Youth Minister at Mount Olive, David was a successful Sales and Marketing professional. He was a Branch Sales Manager and later became the youngest General Manager in the Company at the Centex Corporation/ Home Security Division. After resigning from a highly successful career at Centex to pursue entrepreneurship he became Co- owner and President of Vision One Home Security in Dallas. Upon leaving the Home Security industry, David entered the Pharmaceutical Industry and was recognized as a highly successful Specialty Sales & Marketing Professional in the Neuroscience Division.
David joined the Mount Olive Staff full time in January 2008 and serves as the Youth Minister. He has a deep passion for young people and education and possesses an insatiable appetite for systematically studying God’s Word. He is an avid jogger who plans on competing and completing a marathon in the near future. David resides in Grand Prairie and is married to his lovely wife Jo Antoinette with sons Jeffery and David Earl Hogg II.
Minister Of Membership Care, Rev. Tyrone O. Keels
Rev. Tyrone O. Keels currently serves as Minister Of Membership Care. He is married to Angela and they reside in Dallas, Texas.
Rev. Keels is the youngest of 5 and was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Rev. Keels accepted Christ at the age of 16 at the Zion Grove Baptist Church, in North Little Rock, Arkansas under the leadership of Pastor Ulysses Robinson. He graduated from North Little Rock Northeast High School (currently North Little Rock High, East) in 1988 and moved to Irving, Texas. He attended DeVry University where he received his Associates of Electrical Engineering in 1990 and a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management in 2001.
He worked as a laser engineer for KPT Laser Printing from 1990 to 1994. In 1994 he took an entry level position at Datamax of Texas, part of the Sumner Group Corporation, and worked his way up to . He served as the Division Service Manager for Datamax of Texas from 2000 to 2007 and served as an employee for 14 years. He attended Southern Bible Institute and received his degree in biblical studies in 2007.
Rev. Keels joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1992 and answered his calling to the ministry in 1995. He has served in the Children's Church, as a Group Captain and as Director of Hospital Visitation. In January 2008, Rev. Keels joined the pastoral staff at Mount Olive Baptist Church as the Assistant Youth Minister. In 2014 he became Minister of Membership Care at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. He is currently pursuing his Master's of Divinity from George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Baylor University.
Youth Minister, Rev. Joshua Reese
Rev. Joshua Reese was born and reared in Granger, Texas. His Christian roots are firmly planted within a pastoral family that consists of 30 preachers spanning three generations. Rev. Reese answered his calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the tender age of 18.
He earned a Pastoral Ministries degree from Arlington Baptist College. In 2009, Rev. Reese won the homiletics preaching contest at Arlington Baptist College. He earned his Masters of Theological Studies from Dallas Baptist University in 2013. Upon completion, he will begin doctoral work with the goal of earning a doctorate in ministerial studies.
Reese’s passion is to graciously help people in pastoral care. He always strives to put the needs of others before his own. There is nothing that takes precedent in his life over the work of God. His work in the ministry consists of effectively preaching the Word of God, disciplining the undiscipled, providing a listening ear, and being an effective witness for Christ. Rev. Reese serves in the Mount Olive Children’s Church, as an instructor at the Mount Olive Bible Institute, as a member of the evangelistic team, and as a Sunday school teacher.
Rev. Reese met his lovely wife Heather in Bible College. Rev. and Mrs. Reese were united in holy matrimony on August 2, 2008. They are the parents of one daughter, Lily Ann. In 2013, he joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church Pastoral staff as Minister of Membership Care. In 2014, he became the Assistant Youth Minister at the Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Rev. Reese’s favorite scripture is Philippians 3:10: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” His life motto is: “If I can help somebody as I pass along; if I can cheer somebody with a word or song; if I can show somebody how they’re traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain.”
